Well done!

From today's news:

Riverton robbers chased away by shopkeeper

TWO men got more than they bargained for last night when they tried to rob a grocery store in Riverton only to be chased out of the store by the shopkeeper.

The two men wearing balaclavas - one armed with a pistol - walked into the Go Nuts shop on Riverton Drive just before 9pm.

The pair threatened the shopkeeper, who responded by chasing them from the store.

Its understood the shop owner threw a bin at the robbers, who fled empty handed.

The balaclava clad men are described as fair skinned, one is 170cm tall and the other is 180cm tall.

I'm impressed with the shopkeeper standing up against the would-be robbers and I'm also glad it turned out so well for him! Taking on guys with a gun when your only weapon is a rubbish bin is a big ask!

I'm also surprised and pleased that there is no "We would like to remind people that while this situation worked out with no one injured it is not worth risking your life ... etc" type statements in the article.

Good for him! I take it Australia still allows people to defend themselves without worry about being prosecuted.

MMM interesting one DB. Our situation (last I heard) is very similar to the one in the UK described in Kevin's blog article -http://smallestminority.blogspot.com/2011/08/self-defense-in-uk.html

Additionally, there was a case a couple of years ago where a pizza store worker 'stood up' to some guys who were trying to rob his store and subsequently charges were brought against the owners by WorkSafe for not having / following appropriate procedures.

This still may happen in this case :(

The best self defense tool is between your ears ... But for tools-in-the-hand, a gun beats a trash can any day.

I guess WorkStupid would rather he place his life at the mercy of a robber with a gun than in self defense.

As Lissa says, when it comes to self defense a hand gun is better than a trash can. Then again a shot gun is even better.

Every so often I think about Australia and pray that you folks will come to your senses and throw out a government that won't let you defend yourselves.

Amen! If more people stood up to thugs, there would be less thuggery!
