Must see for kids ...

My girls have just finished watching "They Call Me Trinity". They both enjoyed it and laughed a lot.

I got them this movie as I decided to broaden their movie watching horizons from the animated movies which seem to make up the majority of films these days.

A couple of days ago they watched "Short Circuit" which they also enjoyed.

So, what are your recommendations for other "classic" movies I should let them see?

(Avoid explicit sex please).

Any of the spaghetti westerns with Clint Eastwood ;-) Another funny one is Paint Your Wagon.

I was going to let my kids watch Short Circuit but the language was still a little much for their age (mine are 3 & 6). The Black Hole (a disney movie) is a cool sci-fi film that older kids could see. You also can't go wrong with old musicals (Oklahoma is one of my favorites).

When my kids get a little older, I'm going to start them on John Wayne films :-).

I'd have to second "The Black Hole" and also, concerning John Wayne, "The Shootist".
"Silent Running" is a safe classic but adults who saw it as children back in the 70s usually say that they "cried when the robot died".
"The Final Countdown" is an action film involving time travel, USS Enterprise (the fission-powered aircraft carrier), and Perl Harbour. I watched it when quite young and enjoyed it.
Last, and by no means least, I cannot fail to recommend the single most awesome fantasy film ever - "Hawk The Slayer".

Correction: Nimitz, not Enterprise. Apologies!

The original Star Wars trilogy is perfect for their age group. The original Tron movie was also aimed at young people. Just about any John Wayne western is low on graphic violence and language, but also high on acting and storyline. And of course, there's always Quigley Down Under ;-).

I liked "Short Circuit" better than my kids did, and they loved it. With that in mind, I'd recommend "Flight of the Navigator".

Which apparently Disney is planning a remake of.

Jack London's "White Fang"

"The Princess Bride"

"The Never Ending Story"

"War Games"

"Greystoke: The Legend Of Tarzan"

These are but a few off the top of my head.

"Hallelujah Trail" with Burt Lancaster, Lee Remick, Donald Pleasance, Brian Keith and Martin Landau to name just a few.

I watch it every time it comes around on cable. I rarely laugh harder.

I'll try not to duplicate other's suggestions.

Comedy/Musical
Pete's Dragon
The Ugly Dachshund
The Boatniks
Trinity is Still My Name
Snowball Express
Midnight Madness
Scavenger Hunt
Condorman
Ghost in the Noonday Sun

Adventure/Action
Swiss Family Robinson
No Deposit, No Return
Candleshoe
Dragonslayer
The Last Flight of Noah's Ark
The Journey of Natty Gann
The Man From Snowy River
Return to Snowy River

John Wayne
The Cowboys
McClintock
Rio Bravo
El Dorado
Big Jake

I cannot reccomend "The Black Hole" for anyone under the age of 12. Too many visually beautiful, but boring shots meant to inspire marvel at the (then) state of the art F/X. I reccomend "Fortress" (1985) though it might be too intense for your girls. Another I would reccomend is "The Watcher in the Woods", but it may be a bit to scary.

Aw man I remember seeing that in Hyderabad, in like 1976. The other one is good too, and the last one "My Name is Nobody" - has Henry Fonda.
